Knight Rider Special is an action game based on the TV series Knight Rider . It is similar to the NES version, but is played in a third-person perspective. The player takes control over KITT, the speaking car.
The main goal of the game is to finish each course within a time limit. However, the presence of other cars and trucks make this difficult. Those can be overcome by either shooting them with one of the build-in weapon systems, jumping over them with the turbo boost or simply passing by. It is also important to keep on the road because ramming against lamp posts is unhealthy. KITT's abilities can be upgraded during the course of the game.
The gameplay involves racing and combat elements, requiring the player to navigate through various courses while avoiding obstacles and enemies.

This arcade-style action game adapts the classic *Knight Rider* franchise, casting the player as the identity-swapped detective Michael Knight. Piloting the high-tech, emotion-equipped supercar KITT, you must navigate traffic and combat hazards to rescue a kidnapped scientist's daughter from international villains. The gameplay focuses on driving the Knight 2000 through various urban environments to track down the culprits and stop them from seizing the powerful W-GUN weapon.
Story
The Birth of Knight Rider
The story begins with a single gunshot. Young detective Michael Long was shot while tracking an international industrial spy gang after his colleague was killed. He was miraculously saved by Winston Knight, the president of the Knight Foundation.
When Michael came to, his face had been changed by plastic surgery, and his identity was transformed into Winston Knight's adopted son, Michael Knight. Before passing away from a serious illness, Winston left Michael with final words: "Inherit my dream and fight against the giant evil of the world." With these words in his heart, Michael set out to boldly fight evil alongside his dream car, Knight 2000.
KITT: Knight Industrial Two Thousand
Knight 2000 is a dream car featuring a high-performance computer and a body reinforced with new materials. Its nickname, KITT, stands for Knight Industrial Two Thousand.
KITT serves as a partner for Michael Knight, possessing emotions superior to humans. Unlike ordinary vehicles, it is equipped with special features such as turbo boost, micro-jamming, and one-side drive, allowing it to continue the fight for justice alongside Michael.

Mission Introduction
The modern knight who stands against great evil faces a new challenge. One day, a specific case arrived for Michael. Deveron reported that Dr. Schrodinger's daughter had been kidnapped.

The culprit's goal is the design of the wave energy emission device, the "W-GUN," invented by the doctor.
•
This device will become a major threat if it falls into the wrong hands.
•
The suspect appeared to have fled in a yellow super car.
•
Deveron ordered Michael to track the vehicle immediately.
Michael set the Knight 2000 in motion to search for the yellow super car.

Michael: "Kit, please find out which direction they fled to."

K.I.T.T.: "Yes, Michael. The culprit's car is heading northwest."

Michael: "Understood, Kit, keep charging straight!"

How to Play
Backup RAM Initialization
•
Initialize BACKUP RAM.
•
All contents of BACKUP RAM will be erased.
•
Select "Yes" or "No" to confirm.
•
If backup memory is connected and uninitialized, this screen appears. (Refer to 6 Continue for details).
Starting the Game
•
Press the 1 button to proceed when the CITY STAGE 1 screen appears.
•
On the title screen, use the Up and Down buttons on the D-pad to select "Start".
•
Press the Run button to start the game.
•
If no action is taken, the demo screen will begin.
Initial Gameplay
•
When K.I.T.T. speaks, press the 1 button.
•
The game begins with "Michael, let's go."
Post-Stage Progression
•
When you clear a stage, K.I.T.T. will say something (e.g., "Well done, Michael.").
•
Press button 1 to proceed to the next stage.
•
Bonnie may add a new option (e.g., "Michael, this is the new option.").
•
Press button 1 to continue.
•
The course layout for the next stage will appear.
•
Press the Run button to proceed to the car chase scene.
Screen Display
•
SCORE: Distance traveled.
•
LIFE: If you run out of life, it's game over.
•
OPTION: Displays the current options, such as laser gun, etc.
•
TIME: When this reaches 0, it's game over.
•
DISTANCE: The color changes as you advance.
•
SPEED: Displays the speed.
CD-ROM System Note
•
In the case of playing on a CD-ROM system, you can save passwords within the interface.
•
Backing up to a maximum of 4 passwords is possible.

M.GUN
Machine Gun. Standard equipment on Night 2000.
ONE SIDE
One Side Drive. Known in Japanese as single-wheel driving, useful for avoiding enemy attacks or obstacles.
LASER
Laser Gun. A powerful weapon that destroys enemies, more effective than the Machine Gun.
M.JAM
Micro Jam. A secret weapon that allows you to blow up troublesome cars, limited to 3 uses in car chase scenes.
