Vector Patrol is a faithful clone of Irem's Moon Patrol, recreated entirely in vector graphics. The game follows the same concept as the original: navigate a moon buggy from one station on the Moon to another, avoiding crashes and alien ships. The gameplay involves controlling the vehicle, which moves constantly to the right, allowing the player to speed up or slow down, jump, and shoot (simultaneously firing upwards and forwards). The game features 25 checkpoints labeled A-Z, serving as respawn points. Each five checkpoints mark a separate stage within the course, with reaching the end under par time granting a large score bonus.
Dangers on the Moon include rocks, pits, UFOs that fire at the player or bombard the ground, stationary tanks that fire missiles, landmines, and rocket cars that stalk the buggy. The game also introduces new challenges after completing the first course, including 3D animations after finishing below par time.
The game offers additional features compared to the original, such as unlockable achievements like extra backgrounds, additional buggies, or new courses.
