Metal Slug , originally released on the Neo Geo CD, is a side-scrolling shoot'em'up. The game takes place in an alternate history where World War II has ended differently, and the player must fight their way through hordes of enemy soldiers to rescue civilians.
The gameplay revolves around the player controlling a soldier(s) as they navigate through levels, shooting and collecting power-ups while avoiding enemy fire. Each level culminates in a boss fight against an enormous foe, which the player must defeat using the various weaponry available.
