In this action-adventure game, players control Bubby and Bobby, two heroes tasked with using Magic Parasols to defend the galaxy after the ancient monster Chaostikahn unleashes a horde of villains. The duo must travel to various distinct planets, each featuring unique environments and seven stages of challenges, to defeat the monsters terrorizing the world. Players progress by overcoming obstacles and ultimately defeating the boss character in the final round of each planet to restore peace and unlock the next star.
Story
The Story of Parasol Stars
Once, long ago, a courageous warrior entered a cave of monsters to seal it forever. He accomplished this task, but one monster escaped before the cave was sealed.
Years passed, and that monster, now known as Chaostikahn, grew strong enough to break the power of the warrior's magic seal. Chaostikahn unleashed the monsters within the cave on the world once again.
During this same period, Bubby and Bobby, our heroes, won the admiration of the villagers of Rainbow Island by defeating the enemies terrorizing their planet. This allowed peace to settle in.
To show their appreciation, the inhabitants of the Island entrusted one Magic Parasol each to Bubby and Bobby. In the months that followed, the duo was so intent on learning to harness the power of the Magic Parasols that they did not notice the menacing presence overtaking neighboring planets.
One day, they received an emergency distress signal from one of those nearby planets. Though they had not quite mastered the techniques for using the Magic Parasols, they courageously raised their parasols toward the planet in distress. They disappeared into the skies above Rainbow Island, unaware of the danger and size of their new quest.

The game features several distinct planetary challenges. Each world is divided into 7 rounds.

The sound of music forever fills the air
The last round of each planet pits you against a boss character. Defeating the boss returns peace to the planet and allows you to continue to the next planetary challenge.
How to Play
TurboPad Controls
•
Direction Key: Press to move Bubby left or right. Pressing up and Button II raises Bubby's parasol.
•
RUN Button: Press to start, pause, and 'unpause' the game. Press and hold RUN, then press SELECT to reset the game.
•
SELECT: Not used in Parasol Stars.
•
Button II: Opens Bubby's parasol.
•
Button I: Makes Bubby jump.
Continue Mode
Players can continue playing as long as the Credit counter is not zero. Additional credits can be earned by finding and snagging "100 Dollar" powerups during the game.
Joining a Game in Progress
As long as credits remain on the counter, players can join or re-join a game in progress by simply pressing the RUN button.
Erasing High Scores
This game uses the Backup RAM in the TurboCD or TurboBooster-plus. To clear (reset) the Parasol Stars high score table, press and hold RUN, SELECT, Button I, and Button II while turning on your TurboGrafx.
Demonstration Mode
Parasol Stars cannot be started while in demonstration mode. If the demo is running, the game may be reset by pressing and holding RUN, then SELECT at the same time. The title screen will then appear, allowing the game to be started in the normal manner.
Understanding the Display
The display includes the following information:

Quantity and type of crests captured

Bubby's stock of lives (1-up)

Bobby's stock of lives (2-up)

Bubby's score (1-up)

Bobby's score (2-up)

Drop

Enemy

Player 1 (Bubby)

In one player mode, the number of credits remaining is displayed instead of the player 2 score.
Starting the Game
This game allows two players to play simultaneously. To use this feature, a TurboTap and two TurboPads are required. The TurboTap and pads must be connected prior to turning on your TurboGrafx.
•
At the title screen, pressing RUN on Pad #1 results in a one-player game.
•
Pressing RUN on Pad #2 results in a two-player simultaneous game.
Secrets of Bubble Bobble III
Parasol Stars is filled with secrets. Here are just some of the puzzles to solve, and a few clues to help you along:
Mystery Crests
During the game, 4 different kinds of crests can appear seemingly at random. These crests represent the power of Water, Fire, Lightning, and Stars. When three crests are collected, their power is unleashed in the form of a miracle.
Tip: When you create a large drop twice in the same round, the same kind of crest will appear on the next round.
Secret Door
Each planet contains a secret door. Where is it? What causes it to appear? What treasure does it protect?
Miracle Rainbow
A shimmering rainbow comet protects you, and a sparkling rainbow-colored necklace brings a true miracle beyond words.
Tips & Maps
Stop Movement with the Parasol
Hitting an enemy with the Parasol changes its color and stuns it, causing it to stop moving and allowing you to touch it without ill effects.
Remove Stunned Enemies
Pick up stunned enemies by pressing Button II and touching them with the open Parasol, then throw them by releasing the button to dispose of them before they revive.
Line Up Enemies for Big Scores
Aligning stunned enemies in a row and throwing a Drop or another enemy at the lineup yields exponentially increasing points for each stunned enemy in the line.
Stun Large and Active Enemies
Larger enemies require multiple hits to stun, and active enemies can be stunned by throwing Drops or other stunned enemies at them.
Chain Stun with Small Enemies
If small enemies touch a large stunned enemy, the small enemies will also become stunned.
Roll and Ride Drops
You can move Drops or stunned enemies by rolling them, or ride them by jumping on top of them.
Parasol Protection
Use the Parasol to shield yourself from enemy missiles and laser beams.
Drop Creation and Collection
The four drop types are Water, Lightning, Fire, and Star, and you can create and collect them by holding the Parasol up after retrieving the potion on a boss round.
Large Drop Transformation
Gathering five drops at the same time transforms them into a large drop with enhanced power, which can also be created on the fly by throwing four drops at a cornered drop.
Keep Parasol Open
Press and hold Button II to keep the Parasol open, ensuring the turbo function is switched off.
Climb with Drops
You can climb by jumping up a stream of falling Drops.
Rapid Enemy Disposal
Hit Button II twice rapidly to quickly stun and dispose of an enemy.
Launch from Stunned Enemy
Jump on a stunned enemy and raise the Parasol to pick up the enemy and shoot upwards.
Items & Weapons
Bonus Items
Hidden food or valuable items that appear when throwing enemies or Drops, offering scores ranging from 800 to 10000 points, with a 100 Dollar Coin granting an extra credit.
Death Warning
A warning system where HURRY!! appears if spending too much time searching for bonuses, causing enemies to move faster and potentially allowing Death to take a life unless the round is finished.
Heart
A color-changing power-up that modifies the bonus awarded at the end of a round.
Rod
A color-changing power-up that transforms food items.
Ring
A color-changing power-up that raises scores.
Marble
A color-changing power-up used to blow away enemies.
Boot
An item that speeds up player actions.
Dynamite
An item that creates a tremendous explosion.
Potions
Powerful items appearing only on boss screens that allow the player to attract and collect drops of the same type (Water, Lightning, Fire, or Star) by raising the umbrella.
