Super Columns is an updated version of Columns with more options of play, but with the same setup. The goal is to maneuver falling blocks into groups of three or more to eliminate them from the screen.
The land of Phoenicia is threatened by an evil sorcerer named Surhand, who has stolen a mystical amulet that brings peace and serenity to the land. To restore peace, the player must battle through Surhand's four guards in best two-out-of-three games of Columns.
The game features several modes, including Flash Mode , where the player aims to score as many points as possible before time runs out, and a new Endless Mode . Special columns like Glitter Columns can eliminate all blocks of the same color on the screen at once, while Stone Block Columns require magic power-ups to be eliminated.
Super Columns also includes a Versus mode , where players can compete against each other in best two-out-of-three games. Additionally, the game features a Story mode , where the player must face off against Surhand and his four guards.
The game was released for the Sega Game Gear in 1995 and offers a fun puzzle experience with its unique gameplay mechanics.
