The Captive

The Captive puts players in a desperate situation: trapped in the Glen of Colored Corpses with no way out. The game begins in a town on an island, where the player is free to explore and unlock doors using color-coded keys scattered throughout the area. However, their escape won't be easy – one of the "Messengers of Doom" will periodically appear, move around, and then vanish. If the player touches it, the game ends.

As they navigate the island, players can collect various items and scrolls that can aid them in their quest. With only three items that can be carried at a time, every choice matters. Some items require specific scrolls to unlock their use, while others are essential for survival. The player must manage their energy levels by eating food found on the island, as exhaustion will lead to disaster.

The game features an intuitive menu system that allows players to take control of their actions. By pressing the Fire button, a menu appears, offering options to do nothing, pick up or drop items, use special abilities, or quit the game. However, be warned – choosing to quit will trigger a countdown timer that can be interrupted at any moment, sending the player back to the title screen. If the countdown reaches zero, they'll be forced to restart.
