AKB1/48: Idol to Koishitara is a romance adventure game featuring all the girls from the popular Japanese pop idol group AKB48 . The story begins with the protagonist in a dreamlike situation where all the girls are in love with him, but he must eventually choose just one. AKB48 (which stands for Akihabara , an electronic town in Tokyo) has 48 members in total, and their popularity is based on votes from their fans.
The game plays like a visual novel, featuring real-life locations and actual idols in various poses over background images instead of anime art. The player progresses through the story one day at a time, spending time with one of the idols either on a date or in casual conversation. The player is given a list of letters sent by the AKB48 girls with their profiles, which they can respond to and eventually lead to a date with that person.
The gameplay involves selecting dialogue options during dates, which can affect how the girl feels about the protagonist. If the player is rude or indifferent, addresses from other girls will disappear from the list until only one remains. The game features various unlockables, including visual cards, event scenes, and steel photos, as well as a soundtrack that can be listened to through the BGM player.
Players can also collect cards and trade them with others. Voice-acting for each of the AKB48 girls in the game is done by the members themselves. The game was released for the PSP console on December 23, 2010.
