Founded in 1988, KID developed numerous titles for early consoles, including Burai Fighter and Isolated Warrior. In its later years, the company became highly regarded for its visual novel series, such as the Memories Off and Infinity series. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2006, and its intellectual properties were subsequently acquired by CyberFront.
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the developer acted primarily as a contract studio, creating games for larger publishers such as Namco, Taito, and Taxan. Early projects included the Famicom title
Family Pinball (1989), which was localized in North America as
Rock 'n Ball (1990). The studio also worked on porting popular arcade properties to handheld platforms, delivering the Game Boy versions of
Nekketsu Koukou Dodge Ball-Bu (1990) and
Burai Fighter Deluxe (1990).
The company demonstrated versatility across genres during the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. It developed the Game Boy adventure game
Chibi Maruko-Chan Okozukai Daisakusen (1990) and the isometric shooter
Isolated Warrior (1991) for the Nintendo Entertainment System. These early action and sports titles established the studio's technical capability before its transition toward narrative-driven adventure games in the late 1990s. Throughout this formative period, the developer maintained a low public profile, often remaining uncredited or using pseudonyms in game credits due to the nature of its outsourcing contracts.
