Millennium Interactive Ltd. was a UK-based game developer established in 1990. The studio is most famous for creating the James Pond franchise, including the original 1990 release and its sports spin-offs Aquatic Games and Super Aquatic Games. During the early 1990s, they also developed titles such as Kid Gloves, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Morph, and Super Troll Islands.
Collaborating closely with developer Vectordean, the studio brought the aquatic secret agent to life in
James Pond (1990), which also saw a unique promotional release as
James Pond [Cardboard Box] (1990). This character-driven platformer established a mascot franchise that defined the company's early output. They expanded this universe with the Olympic-themed sports spin-offs
Aquatic Games (1992) and
Super Aquatic Games (1993), which translated the franchise's physics and underwater mechanics into competitive multiplayer minigames.
Beyond their flagship mascot, the developer explored diverse gameplay styles on 16-bit home computers and consoles.
Kid Gloves (1990) offered fast-paced platforming, while
The Adventures Of Robin Hood (1991) utilized an innovative isometric perspective and real-time world simulation. The claymation-styled puzzle-platformer
Morph (1993) and the licensed platformer
Super Troll Islands (1994) further demonstrated their versatility in character design and sprite animation. This portfolio of character-centric titles eventually attracted Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, which acquired the studio in 1997, rebranding it as SCE Studio Cambridge and shifting its focus to 3D console development.
