Blacksad: Under The Skin , a psychological thriller set in early years after World War II, follows John Blacksad, a New York black cat P.I. as he investigates the murder of his client's father, Joe Dunn, a boxing gym owner. After initial police suspicions of suicide turn into a complex web of conspiracies involving drugs, blackmails, and hired guns, Blacksad must use his skills to unravel the truth. The game features an action-camera perspective with limited third-person movement, allowing the player to explore only what's shown on screen. Hidden album stickers can be accessed by moving the camera slightly off its fixed position. The game also includes a Hall of Fame feature with sports albums and stickers, but these are largely secondary to the main storyline.
Gameplay involves interacting with objects using an icon display, often requiring players to react quickly during dialogues that build up character stats. There's no inventory system, as Blacksad automatically uses items he carries in the right location. A notebook is also used to record information about suspects and other interest characters, which can aid in deductions.
Blacksad: Under The Skin offers a unique blend of action-adventure gameplay with a strong focus on storytelling and character development. By utilizing a cinematic camera angle and limited player movement, the game creates a sense of tension and mystery that keeps players engaged throughout.
