Saving Your Game
You can save your game in two places: after finishing a chapter and on the Preparations screen.
After Finishing a Chapter
Once you finish a chapter, you will have the option to save. Select the desired slot and press the A Button. If you are overwriting a save slot, select Save to overwrite or Quit to continue without saving.
On the Preparations Screen
Select Save on the Preparations screen, then follow the instructions for finishing a chapter.
As long as you don't save over a chapter's save data, you can replay that chapter as many times as you like.
Saving Midchapter
You can save in the middle of a battle by selecting Suspend from the map menu. Suspending returns you to the title screen. To resume, select Resume Chapter from the main menu.
•
Once you resume a chapter, the suspend data is lost. You cannot restart a chapter from the same suspended point repeatedly.
•
Choosing Restart Chapter or New Game overwrites and loses suspend data.
•
Turning the power OFF during a battle automatically suspends the chapter.
Note: Save data may become corrupted if you turn the power OFF while the game is saving.
Game Flow
The game is divided into chapters that must be cleared in order to proceed. Each chapter begins with a conversation followed by a battle.
Unit Types
Characters on maps are referred to as units.
•
Blue: Allied units (yours).
•
Green: Neutral or other units.
•
Gray: Units that have already moved for the current turn.
You control your army as the tactician. The CPU controls all other units.
About Turns
The player and enemy alternate turns. New allied units cannot move until the enemy completes its turn. Typically, units can move only once per turn.
Clearing Chapters
Each chapter consists of one map with specific objectives, such as defeating all enemies or seizing gates. Complete the objective to move to the next chapter.
Unit Casualties and Game Over
Unit Casualties
If a unit's HP is reduced to 0, it is removed from the map.
Game Over
Your game ends if:
•
A lord's (Lyn, Eliwood, or Hector) HP reaches 0.
•
You fail to complete a chapter's objective.
You will need to retry the chapter.

Movement and Attack Ranges
Movement and Possible Attack Range
•
Movement Range: Displayed in blue.
•
Attack Range: Displayed in red.
•
Stave Range: Areas affected by staves are shown in green.
You can view these ranges for any unit on-screen (ally, enemy, or neutral).
Second Movement
Units on pegasi or horseback can move, perform actions (like Rescue or Trade), and then finish moving the rest of their range if they have left over movement.
Terrain and Weather
•
Woods and mountains reduce movement range.
•
Rain or snow on some maps reduces all units' movement ranges for a few turns.
Detailed Information
Eliwood
Eliwood is a gifted young noble of Lycia and the son of the Marquess of Pherae. He is kind, possesses a strong sense of justice, and is always courteous. When his father vanishes, Eliwood sets out to search for him with a few soldiers. While he lacks battlefield experience, his swordsmanship skill is undeniable.
Units
Unit Growth
Units gain EXP by engaging in combat and using magic. New levels are achieved every 100 EXP, increasing strength and skill ratings. Units can reach a maximum of level 20.
•
Changing Classes: Almost all units can change to higher classes once conditions are met. This increases abilities (e.g., Cavaliers become Paladins).
Regaining Hit Points
There are four ways to regain HP:
1. Rest at Fortifications: Move units onto fortresses, gates, castle gates, or thrones. Units here heal a few HP at the start of your turn.
2. Use Items: Vulneraries restore 10 HP; Elixirs restore all HP.
3. Magic Staves: Clerics, Bishops, and Troubadours can use staves. Healing depends on the wielder and staff type.
4. Nisferatu Spell: This spell returns HP to the caster equal to the damage dealt to an enemy.
