The Ancient Art of War is a real-time strategy game inspired by Sun Tzu's classic military teachings. Set in the pre-gunpowder era, players command armies of barbarians, knights, archers, and, in some scenarios, spies. Battles begin on a strategic overhead map where troops are moved, reinforced, and ordered to attack, defend, or ambush in real time, with adjustable game speed and pause options. When armies meet, combat shifts to a tactical battle screen where squads of up to 14 soldiers fight according to formations and player commands. Players can choose from multiple scenarios with different maps, objectives, and difficulty settings. Eight AI opponents, including Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan, Napoleon, Geronimo, and Sun Tzu, each use distinct strategies. A built-in editor allows players to create custom campaigns, maps, rules, and troop settings.
