Last Resort is a 1-2 player horizontal shooter game where you pilot a spacecraft across horizontally scrolling cityscapes and wastelands, while destroying hordes of enemy spacecraft. Power-up pods provide the craft with a movable drone which can be charged up and fired or locked into position and used as an extra gun or 'battering ram'/shield.
The game features various enemies, including metallic and organic vessels, and mid- and end-level guardians. A clone of R-Type, Last Resort boasts improved graphics and sound compared to its original counterparts.

This is a sci-fi arcade-style shoot 'em up game where humanity, having colonized space, faces an existential threat from a sentient computer virus. Players pilot advanced fighter jets to eradicate mechanical life forms and destroy the virus's source in a desperate "Last Resort" mission.
Story
The Year 2XX0
The global population surpassed 90 billion. Severe air pollution and fossil fuel consumption caused widespread desertification, and Earth's green landscapes became a memory. Humanity initiated full-scale space migration, ushering in a new space era.
Space Colonies
Humanity established permanent cities on planets throughout the galaxy, conquering the universe through scientific civilization. This led to a rapid resurgence of prosperity.
Emergency Signal
The mother controller, governing all colonies, detected an emergency signal. A computer virus, originating in the main computer of the 3rd colony, developed sentience and began eliminating humanity. Mechanical life forms, programmed with the same objective, are now advancing on all colonies.
Last Resort
Former space heroes are being defeated and transformed into mechanical life forms by the virus. Amidst fading consciousness, the heart of justice cries out in space. The final operation, "Last Resort," has been ordered.
Emergency Order
Pilot the advanced aircraft, "TZ-024" and "YS-024." These aircraft are equipped with a freely maneuverable "high-mobility unit" and a power-up type "special shot."
Your mission is to destroy the viral life forms within Colony 3. The fate of humanity rests on your piloting skills and techniques. Launch immediately once preparations are complete.

Title Screen
When you turn on the power, the title and demo screens will be displayed. Press the start button to bring up the option screen.

Load (Data Recall) Selection

If a memory card with game data saved on it is set in the main unit, the load selection screen will be displayed. Select with the lever and confirm with the A button. If you select "YES", you can play from the beginning of the stage where you last saved.
About Memory Card Save (Record)
If a memory card is set in the main unit, the save selection screen will be displayed at game over. Select with the lever and confirm with the A button. The progress stage will be recorded.
Game Start
The game will finally begin. If you lose 3 of your own aircraft, it will be game over. However, if you have continues remaining, you can continue playing by pressing the start button.
About 2-Player Simultaneous Play / Mid-Game Participation
This game allows for 2-player simultaneous play and mid-game participation if two controllers are connected.
When two people play, both start buttons must be pressed. A separately sold controller is required.
About Unit Shoot (Charge Shot)
The biggest weapon of your ship is an attack that fires the unit itself. By continuing to press the shot button (A button), the power gauge will increase.
When you release the shot button, it will fly out with the attack power at that point, deal damage to enemies, and then return. The firing direction is the line connecting your ship and the unit.

About Unit Rotation
Rotation is the rotational movement performed by the unit itself, keeping the gun barrel facing outwards and stopping at a position that attacks in the opposite direction of your machine's control direction, allowing for shot attacks in all directions.
About Unit Revolution
Revolution is the rotational movement in which the unit draws a circle around your machine, performed in the opposite direction of your machine's control direction, and can be stopped at any of 8 points by pressing the B button.
Attack simultaneously with 2P.
2P simultaneous play allows for on-the-spot revival and strategic timing of revival after a partner overcomes a difficult section, in addition to continuous attacks.
Use units as barriers.
Units can erase enemy small bullets and homing missiles, and can also destroy weak enemies, but powerful attacks like lasers cannot be prevented.
Know the Bound Barrier.
When a return unit is equipped, shooting directly above or below will reflect off the top and bottom of your ship, repeatedly acting as a barrier, becoming a powerful weapon when used according to the terrain.
Earn points.
The cars running on the highway in the first stage have high scores and are perfect for earning points.
Items & Weapons
Return Unit
If the item is acquired when it is blue, it reflects off obstacles, destroys enemies, and returns to your ship.
Grand Unit
If the item is acquired when it is red, it flies along obstacles, destroys enemies, and returns to your ship.
Normal Shot
This is the standard equipped shot, firing 3 shots forward. It can be used even when equipped with a shot from an item.
Shot Items
Each item allows you to equip 3 types of shots in conjunction with the normal shot, which can be powered up to 3 stages.
Laser
Obtain an L item to equip this. The core of the laser penetrates, allowing powerful attacks against enemies in front of you, with a wider attack range when powered up.
Homing Missile
Obtain an H item to equip this. It detects enemies and flies towards them, making it effective against many, and fires more missiles when powered up.
Ground Missile
Obtain a G item to equip this. Missiles fired up and down continuously explode along the ground when they hit enemies or the ground, with an expanded explosion range when powered up.
Speed Up
If you obtain an S item, your ship's speed will increase up to 3 levels.
Speed Down
If you obtain a reverse S item, your speed will decrease, so please be careful.
Enemies & Characters
LAMELLA
Appears randomly in Stage 1 and rushes towards your ship. Lure it skillfully and escape.
IRON CRAW
Appears on the Stage 1 highway. A killing machine that continues to attack even if both arms are destroyed.
BRUCKEN
Stage 1 boss. The wave laser's firing port is its weak point. Be careful of the projectiles it spits from its mouth.
GUSTAV
Appears in stage 2 underwater. If you damage the red glowing part, it will break apart and fall.
RED BUG
Attacks by moving back and forth between the ground and ceiling in stage 4. It's weak, but if you don't defeat it quickly, it becomes difficult to avoid.
METAL BEE
Moves in formation in stage 4. A troublesome enemy that drops items while flying. However, some of the drops turn into items when destroyed.
