Samurai Shodown IV brings back three classic characters (Yagyu Jubei, Charlotte and Tam Tam) along with new additions Sogetsu Kazama and his brother Kazuki. The game also introduces new backgrounds to its already rich environment. Despite these minor improvements, the game retains many elements from previous installments, such as the dodge move and dual fighter options.
The gameplay remains true to form, focusing on intense sword fighting with an emphasis on strategy. The "No Contest" Moves add a layer of brutality to battles, allowing for more intense showdowns between opponents.
