Ion Fury is set before the events of Bombshell, following Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison as she takes on the cybernetic forces of Dr. Jadus Heskel in a world of high-tech warfare.
The game's development drew upon the classic Build engine, which powered 90s FPS staples like Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior, with added modern touches such as improved graphics and gameplay mechanics, including autosave options to complement manual saving.
A preview campaign was released in February 2018, consisting of a single episode that concluded with a boss fight. Shelly is equipped with four weapons, including her trusty revolver and homing bombs from Bombshell, which encourages exploration and discovery of hidden secrets and rewards.
