Mario receives an unexpected visit to Peach's castle, only to find her missing. Toad reveals that Bowser has kidnapped her once again, and even cast a spell on the kingdom, imprisoning its subjects. With his rescue mission underway, Mario must break the curse to save the day.
Super Mario 64 revolutionized the series by introducing full 3D graphics. The gameplay is centered around exploration, platforming, and combat, with an emphasis on collecting stars to unlock new areas within Bowser's castle. Players have the freedom to navigate levels without time constraints, using a variety of techniques such as double jumping, wall jumps, and backflips to overcome obstacles.
Mario's arsenal has been expanded in this installment, allowing for more versatility in gameplay. In addition to running and jumping, he can now walk, crouch, crawl, climb, and punch enemies. The game also introduces swimming underwater, which requires careful management of oxygen levels. Puzzles often require players to pick up and carry items to progress through the game.
Power-ups play a crucial role in Mario's success. The Wing Cap enables flight, while the Metal Cap provides protection from harm. The Vanish Cap allows Mario to become invisible, granting access to previously inaccessible areas. By combining these power-ups with other abilities, players can explore new heights and uncover hidden secrets.
