Psyvariar Delta combines both versions of Psyvariar with new content, featuring the game's trademark systems: buzzing and rolling. Buzzing rewards the player for grazing the edge of bullets, encouraging risky play styles. The player receives points as well as experience points, which helps their ship rank up; ranking up boosts the ship's power and grants access to later levels. When the ship ranks up, it also gets a special effect, such as temporary invincibility. Buzz combos build up over the course of a level, but reset to 0 when hit by a bullet. Rolling allows the player to perform a barrel roll by rapidly tapping the joystick back and forth; while rolling, the player's ship moves at a different speed from usual and the shot is focused into a tighter pattern.
The game has multiple main game modes that allow players to mix and match elements from Psyvariar: Medium Unit and Psyvariar: Revision. Players can select between original soundtracks or new music for Psyvariar Delta , as well as choose from several ships and game modes. The available ships include Axion-μ, Axion-R, and Blanche.
The three main game variations are:
Psyvariar: Medium Unit : Features a smaller set of levels compared to later revisions.
Psyvariar: Revision : Includes remixed enemy placements and shot patterns, as well as additional levels. The rank requirements for harder levels have been raised.
Psyvariar Delta : Offers the same levels as Psyvariar: Revision with new enemy placements and shot patterns.
The game also includes practice mode, which lets players try any stage with specified lives, bombs, and experience. A replay mode allows players to watch replays of their previous games.
Psyvariar Delta was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2019 . The game combines elements from both Psyvariar versions with new content, offering a unique blend of challenging gameplay and branching level options.
