Platoon , released on the Commodore 64 in 1987, is an action game that puts you in control of five US Army soldiers on their mission in Vietnam. The game's story follows the film adaptation, with you switching between the five soldiers as they take one of three hits that would be fatal. Platoon recreates each section of the film, starting with a side-scrolling journey through the jungle, where you'll need to navigate paths both horizontally and vertically, jump or duck hazards, and blow up a bridge. You'll also locate a village containing a torch, map, and trap-door, but be warned - the enemy has booby-trapped the area and is launching airstrikes.
Platoon 's gameplay involves moving through a network of tunnels in first-person 3D, searching for flares and a compass. You'll use different control methods, including standard motion, cross-hair targeting, and room search mode. After escaping the tunnels, you'll settle into a bunker overnight and must use limited flares to locate incoming enemies.
Platoon 's final challenge is facing Sergeant Barnes, where you'll need to hit him with grenades five times while trapped in a foxhole to avoid being eliminated.
