This is an action-adventure platformer where players control Ratchet, a Lombax, and his robot companion Clank. The duo must assemble a powerful arsenal to stop the robot supremacist Dr. Nefarious from eradicating all organic life in the galaxy. Players will engage in combat and exploration to save the universe from this robotic threat.



Story

Death to the Squishies!

Ratchet is frustrated. He's tired of robots getting all the glory while he does the hero work and receives no credit. He feels overlooked, especially with Clank getting star treatment for his role in the "Secret Agent Clank" T.V. show. Even the President of the Galaxy is acting like a star-struck fan.

Clank is a great guy, but he spends most of his time as a backpack. And the Galactic Ranger bots, supposedly guardians of universal peace, seem to have a "cowardice feature" programmed in. Ratchet is the one who experiences real pain when a Tyhrranoid attacks, so he feels he deserves more respect.

Nefarious Rumors

On top of the robot worship, there are disturbing rumors circulating the galaxy. The word "squishy" is being used as an insult to describe living things, implying that being alive is no longer considered cool.

The news is showing scenes of Ratchet's home planet, Veldin, under attack by Tyhrranoid raiders. These raiders are rumored to be funded by Dr. Nefarious, a flesh-hating robot supremacist. He plans to obliterate all living things.

Dr. Nefarious's Plan

Dr. Nefarious has convinced a gullible warrior race, the Tyhrranoids, to become his allies in destroying all organic life. The Tyhrranoids, lacking a concept of irony, don't realize that Nefarious plans to annihilate them once they've completed his dirty work.

Currently, a huge Tyhrranoid attack squadron is looting the streets of Veldin. Ratchet and Clank must assemble the deadliest arsenal of weapons the galaxy has ever known to defeat the arch-supervillain Dr. Nefarious.

The Mission Ahead

Ratchet and Clank must stop this robo-felon. The good news is that a crack team of space commandos will cover their backs. The bad news is these commandos will actually be protecting the meatloaf in the command ship cafeteria.

No worries, though. Ratchet is in an edgy mood and ready for whatever comes next. It's time to visit Veldin and deliver some well-placed powder burns. Perhaps some intergalactic devastation will cheer him up. Ratchet has a shipload of new weapons and is eager to use them on the next smartass alien who shows too much attitude.



PlayStation 2 Setup

Set up your PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system according to the instructions in its Instruction Manual. Make sure the MAIN POWER switch (located on the back of the console) is turned ON.

Press the RESET button. When the power indicator lights up, press the OPEN button and the disc tray will open. Place the Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal disc on the disc tray with the label side facing up. Press the OPEN button again and the disc tray will close.

Attach a game controller and other peripherals as appropriate. Follow on-screen instructions and refer to this manual for information on using the software.

*Note: Illustration may not match all PlayStation 2 console types. For owners of SCPH-70000 series PlayStation 2 systems, refer to the setup instructions supplied with your system.*

MEMORY CARD (8MB) (for PlayStation®2)

To save Single Player game progress and settings, network configuration data and online profiles, insert a memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) into MEMORY CARD slot 1 of your PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system. Once a Save File is created, all new Single Player game data is auto-saved.

You can load saved Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal game data from the same card or any memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) containing previously saved data. A memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation 2) is required to play Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal online.

Before playing online, a valid Network Configuration must be saved to the memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation 2) using either the Network Adaptor Start-Up Disc or the Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal Network Configuration utility.

NETWORK ADAPTOR (Ethernet/Modem) (for PlayStation®2)

In order to play Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal online, you must have installed a Network Adaptor (Ethernet/Modem) (for PlayStation 2) on your PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system before playing. Set up the Network Adaptor according to the instructions included in its packaging.

*Caution: Unplug the AC power cord on your PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system before adding any networking equipment to the system.*

*Note: Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal must be played over a broadband Internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or higher speeds).*

SETTING UP THE USB HEADSET (for PlayStation®2)

The USB Headset (for PlayStation®2) allows you to talk with other online players. Connect the headset to either of the USB (Universal Serial Bus) connectors located on the front of your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system with the USB symbol on the plug facing UP.

*Note: The SOCOM Headset can also be used.*

STARTING UP

At the Title Screen, press the START button. Select a game option from the Main Menu. When prompted to create a Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal save file, select YES.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves™ Demo

Want to play a demo of Sly 2: Band of Thieves™? Press and hold the L1, L2, R1, R2 buttons simultaneously when the Title Screen appears.

MANUAL SAVE

On the Pause Menu, select OPTIONS, and SAVE to manually save your game.

LOADING A SAVED SINGLE PLAYER GAME

To continue playing a saved Single Player game, select LOAD GAME on the Main Menu. Highlight the save game file you want to continue playing and press the button.

AUTO-SAVE

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal uses an Auto-Save feature to save game progress after you create a save file. Select NEW GAME to display the Empty Save files. Select a file and you will be prompted to create a save file. Press the button to create the save file.

When the Auto-Save feature is running, a prompt will appear on-screen. Do not remove the memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) during this process.

*Note: If you remove the memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation 2), a message will appear informing you that Auto-Save has been disabled. To re-enable Auto-Save, perform a Manual Save.*

LOADING A SAVE FILE FROM PREVIOUS RATCHET & CLANK GAMES

You may be asked to insert a memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) containing Ratchet & Clank or Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando save files sometime during the Single Player Game. Having these files could open up some special deals or secret game features.

*Note: It is O.K. to have save files from all three Ratchet & Clank adventures on the same memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation 2).*

CAMERA/BUTTON CONTROL MODES

There are three different camera/control modes. Choose the mode that fits you best. See specific control sets in the "Controls" section on page 5.

THE MAIN MENU

NEW GAME

One player joins Ratchet & Clank as they blast their way through the Galaxy. This is a mission to save freedom-loving organics everywhere from the squishy-squashing Dr. Nefarious. If you liked the warfare from Ratchet & Clank's first two adventures, squeeze off a few million rounds from here

Shows how much experience the weapon has, and how much more is needed to upgrade it to the next level.

STRAFING WITH WEAPONS

Use strafe controls to keep facing the enemy during a firefight or attack by pressing and holding L2 or R2 while running, then firing your weapon.

WEAPON UPGRADES

Gadgetron weapons grow with you, with different power upgrades depending on whether you are in Single Player or Online games.

SINGLE PLAYER UPGRADES

Each weapon is capable of four upgrades, with the first three being V2, V3, and V4, and a final monster upgrade that changes the weapon name and boosts its power.

ONLINE UPGRADES

After three kills, your weapon will upgrade, potentially including increased firepower, higher firing rate, more ammo, or a larger damage radius, and upgraded weapons display a blue icon in Quick Select.

HACKER CONTROLS

Controls for the Hacker include: Fire Cannon (button), Fire Tractor Beam (button), Rotate (left analog stick), and 180 degree rotation (L1 or R1 button).

NANO-PAK

The Nano-Pak stores extra Nanotech when Ratchet is at maximum, automatically releasing it to heal him when he is critically low.

THE GALACTIC MAP

View the Galactic Map from inside your ship to get a galaxy-sized view, travel from planet-to-planet, set coordinates for space travel, or view mission objectives.

THE WORLD MAP

Press the or button to display the World Map, where you can scan with the left analog stick, zoom in and out with the right analog stick, see your current position as an arrow, and identify unexplored areas as gray and level missions as question marks.



Items & Weapons

It's a tool and a weapon that Ratchet can never lose, magnetized for easy Bolt collection in both Single Player and Multiplayer games.

This close-range shotgun delivers devastation, clearing rooms of enemies, though its damage decreases with distance. In Single Player, it can be charged for a more powerful attack.

Release a destructive orb that explodes on impact, delivering 360 degrees of mini-nuclear devastation in Single Player.

A devastating new weapon for Single Player with the same control mechanics as the Omniwrench, used for 'whippin'' enemies.

GADGETRON SUCK CANNON

Suck up small enemies by holding the button, then release them for close-range firepower; it also sucks up crates.

Blast multiple targets with electricity by holding the button to lock on, then releasing to attack all targeted enemies in Single Player.

Deploy mini robots that spread explosive misery on the battlefield, proving to be a popular product in Single Player.

Shoot a ball of goo into enemies, causing them to turn on each other, and eventually themselves, in Single Player.

Designed for pounding long-range punishment, this weapon features superb limited auto-targeting or manual sighting in both Single Player and Multiplayer.

A sniper rifle for nailing long-range targets; open the scope with L1, zoom with R1 and R2, and fire with the button.

Hose down enemies with a high-pressure lava stream, going 'totally volcanic' in both Single Player and Multiplayer.

MINI-ROCKET TUBE

An auto-tracking rocket launcher that is great at long range or point blank, available in Multiplayer Only.

Launch mini-homing mines that seek and attack enemy players, vehicles, and turrets, with color-coding to identify the deploying team.

QWACK-O-RAY/MORPH-O-RAY

This weapon turns enemies into ducks in Single Player, and includes sheepinating power in Multiplayer, with zero maintenance and no ammo needed.

Fire a cable at green hovering targets to swing like a space monkey; it auto-equips when jumping towards a swing target and can activate platforms.

Disguise yourself as a Tyhrranoid and engage in conversation by matching onscreen icons with button presses, but beware of insulting them.

These boots automatically activate on magnetized surfaces, allowing you to walk on metal or battle on the ceiling.

Double-tap the R1 button (or R2 in First Person/Lock-Strafe) to cruise over the ground at lightning speed.

Crack codes and bypass security systems by destroying red 'sparks' with a cannon and absorbing green 'sparks' with a tractor beam, while blue shields are indestructible.
