Ape Escape is a thrilling action-adventure game where Spike must travel through prehistoric lands to capture Specter's army of monkeys. The mischievous simian, once a mild-mannered monkey, has taken over the Professor's time machine and is using it to alter history and create a simian society.

Using a Dual Shock controller, Spike can control his items with the right stick, including a stun stick, an RC Car, and a helicopter blade. The goal in every level is to capture as many of Specter's monkeys as possible, each with unique stats and personalities. Some will be easy to catch, while others will attack you with various weapons.

Completing levels will unlock time attack modes, where Spike must navigate through the prehistoric landscape as fast as possible. Additionally, collecting Ape Escape 's hidden Specter Coins will reveal bonus games like boxing and skiing, which can be played using the dual stick controls.
