War Chess is a chess game with an unusual presentation. The pieces are substituted with characters from a High Fantasy setting. The player can choose from 11 different locations for the match, including Forest, Desert, Ice and Lava, Dragon Cave, and more. These environments and pieces are rendered in full 3D with a fully rotatable camera.
The game offers a single-player experience with a difficulty slider to accommodate the player's skill level. It also features a multiplayer mode for two players to battle each other over the network or on a PC connected via a network.
War Chess takes inspiration from the Battlechess series, but lacks unique animations for different encounter types on the chessboard. Each piece has two sets of animations: one for attacking and another for dying, regardless of the opponent's piece type.
