Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is a tie-in to the 2011 movie Green Lantern , based on the DC comic. The main character, Hal Jordan, is a cocky test pilot who becomes the new bearer of the Green Lantern ring after an alien named Abin Sur's spaceship crashes on Earth. With the ring's powers, Jordan fights against the forces of Parallax and the Manhunters, an android race that seeks to reclaim their position as the intergalactic police force.
The gameplay revolves around Jordan's combat using his powers, including a laser sword, drill attacks, and claw grabs. He can also upgrade his abilities with constructs, which provide new attack options but drain energy. The game features action sequences on the ground and in flight, requiring players to navigate through space while evading objects and fighting enemies.
The game supports cooperative play with another player joining as Sinestro, allowing for certain attacks to be performed through cooperative actions. Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters features 3D visuals, both on standard TVs with TriOviz Inficolor technology or stereoscopic 3D on proper 3DTVs.
The game consists of ten main missions, each culminating in a boss fight and often requiring quick-time events. Players can earn experience points by destroying enemies and collecting orbs, which can be used to level up Jordan's abilities.
