Midnight Raiders , released for the Sega Mega CD in 1995, is a FMV rail shooter that follows the story of rookie chopper gunner "Joker" as he attempts to rescue a German biochemist from terrorists. The plot takes Joker to a Middle Eastern oil refinery, where enemy tanks and helicopters stand between him and his target. After shooting down these enemies, Joker must rappel down to the refinery on foot to rescue the chemist.
The gameplay is divided into two main sections: helicopter and on-foot segments. In both cases, the player is presented with a set of crosshairs that must be moved over the enemy before pressing the "fire" button. The goal is to hit the target and watch as military archival footage plays out, showcasing explosions and model destruction. While the gameplay itself remains similar in both sections, the on-foot sections add an extra layer of tension through black-clad guards.
