Sparkster , released for the Super Nintendo in 1994, is an action-packed platformer starring a hero who first appeared in Rocket Knight Adventures . Unlike its Genesis counterpart, it doesn't continue the story and features distinct levels, enemies, and gameplay mechanics. The game begins with an elderly man capturing a girl and taking her onto his airship, prompting Sparkster to intervene.
Play as Sparkster, an opossum carrying a rocket pack on his back. You can move around, duck, jump, and hang from branches or rails. His sword slash attack sends out a circular projectile. By pressing the L and R buttons, you can dash left and right in a circle of fire. Pressing the attack button builds up a rocket meter, allowing for various actions like dashing, ricocheting off walls, or stationary attacks.
The game consists of nine levels, with the last two only accessible on higher difficulty levels. Sparkster collects diamonds for points, defeats robot enemies, and gathers apples to restore his heart meter near the top of the screen. The gameplay is primarily platforming, with some deviations that include riding a robot bird or experiencing vertically-scrolling shooter sections. Each level has a boss fight and several mid-level bosses. The game supports a password system.
