007: Quantum of Solace is based on the scripts of the 21st movie "Casino Royale" and the 22nd James Bond movie of the same name as the game, following closely the story of those movies but elaborating many scenes and filling in some blanks.
The player takes control of James Bond in a first person shooter fashion, directing him through levels filled with enemies. To overcome them, Bond has various weapons at his disposal, including his P99 and machine guns. However, levels also feature canisters that explode or vent gas, temporarily blinding enemies. Bond can use a take-down move to silently eliminate enemies, which requires hitting a circle with a crosshair in a short time frame.
The game features various obstacles, such as cameras that can be shot or disabled and electronic locks that need to be hacked through another mini-game. In this mode, players must press buttons quickly when arrows flash green or red on the screen to input the correct number into a keypad.
The game also includes a multiplayer mode for up to 12 players, featuring different game modes:
◦ Bond Versus: one player controls James Bond and must defuse bombs or kill all opposing team members. ◦ Golden Gun: the first player to score 100 points wins the round. Points are earned by kills, with the "Golden Gun" power weapon scoring 6 points per kill. ◦ Bond Evasion: one member of the MI6-team randomly becomes James Bond and must reach an escape point to win the round for their team. The Organization tries to stop them by killing or preventing them from reaching the escape points in time.
