The game Horrible Histories: Ruthless Romans is based on a Roman volume of Horrible Histories, a popular book series by author Terry Deary and illustrator Martin Brown. In this game, you play as Rassimus, a young gladiator trying to gain his freedom in ancient Rome.
The story mode follows Rassimus' journey as he faces seven different types of gladiators with unique fighting styles. To win your freedom, you must defeat each gladiator by completing three minigames and solving plot-related quests. The game features a mix of exploration, interaction, and combat.
Gameplay involves navigating Rome's streets, talking to characters, and participating in mini-games. You can use the Wii Remote controller for this purpose. In addition to the single-player option, there are several multiplayer modes available: Multiplayer options include the Conquest Challenge, where players compete to take over Roman Empire territories, and the Mini-game Challenge, a board game-style competition that awards points for winning mini-games. The Mini-game Challenge allows up to four players to participate in a series of mini-games, with the player who wins the most taking home the title. Players can customize their experience by choosing an avatar and typing in their name. The Versus Challenge offers two-player gladiator battles outside of story mode. Multiplayer is exclusive to the Wii console.
