Trauma Center: New Blood is the second game in the series for the Wii console and offers a unique experience from its predecessor. The story follows ten years after the events of Trauma Center: Second Opinion , featuring doctors Markus Vaughn and Valerie Blaylock, as they face a mysterious parasite called Sigma. After performing surgery on Professor Wilkens, who is infected with the disease, he is kidnapped and all information about the disease is stolen.
Players can enjoy co-op mode, where they can call in a colleague to assist them during challenging surgeries. The Wiimote is used to perform various tasks such as making incisions, applying antibiotic gel, sewing sutures, and using the "healing touch" to save patients' lives. Challenge missions require players to treat a set number of patients within a limited time, while X-missions return after completing the game once.
Players can choose to control either Markus or Valerie in single-player or co-op mode. Some missions force the player to use one doctor over the other, with dialogue changes being the only difference between the two doctors. The main distinction lies in their versions of the Healing Touch: Markus' slows down time, while Valerie's freezes the patient's vitals for a short period, allowing the player to focus on the operation.
