Dynasty Warriors 5 is set in ancient China and returns with another iteration of the series. The game has removed most of the features from previous games, but still offers a variety of gameplay options. In Musou mode, players can choose from 48 different characters to play as, each with their own storyline.
The gameplay involves fighting against large numbers of enemies on screen, making it more challenging than previous titles in the series. The game's graphics engine has been carried over from the previous game, but new features such as improved bodyguards and a stronghold system have been added. This allows players to take control of enemy bases by defeating their leaders.
