The game's story revolves around a fictional universe where giant robots called "BattleMechs" are used in battle. You'll take on various missions and fight against enemy forces, with the goal of destroying their bases and equipment. Along the way, you'll encounter other players online through Xbox Live, adding a social element to the gameplay.

Gameplay involves controlling your chosen Mech, using a combination of movement, shooting, and melee attacks to take down enemies. The game's physics engine allows for realistic destruction, with buildings and vehicles exploding in dramatic fashion. You can also upgrade and customize your Mechs, unlocking new abilities and enhancements as you progress through the campaign.
