Blitz: The League II is the sequel to Blitz: The League , where the player steps into a fantasy football league with a focus on competition and strategy. This version builds upon the same features as its predecessor, including Exhibition mode for one-on-one matches against the CPU or a friend, and Campaign mode, where the player takes control of a coach assigned to a struggling team and works to bring them up to prominence through training and management. The campaign is driven by a constantly changing storyline that reveals the personal lives of the star athletes.
The game's Clash Mode returns, allowing players to unleash powerful tackles on opponents by hitting them with dirty and late hits. Injuries are still present, with enhanced graphics showing realistic damage to the players' bodies through x-rays. A new feature allows players to pinpoint the location of an opposing player they wish to hit, adjusting the size of the target area to affect the chances of a successful tackle.
Online capabilities enable players to connect and engage in quick versus matches against friends or participate in online campaign modes. The game also features downloadable content and voice acting from NFL legends, including Lawrence Taylor as Quentin Sands, alongside comedians Jay Mohr and Frank Caliendo.
