Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is an enhanced remake based on the original Painkiller and the expansion Painkiller: Battle Out of Hell. Of the 34 levels originally available in those games, 14 are featured in this title reorganized in four chapters. Each chapter has a boss and they were reconstructed with changes to the level design and the enemies. There is also a global graphical overhaul courtesy of converting the game from the original PAIN engine to UnrealEngine3. Most of the visual enhancements are apparent in the character models and skins.
The game's story is reimagined with a new intro cinematic, changing the setup of Daniel Garner's trip to purgatory. The original weapons are joined by the Soulcatcher, which combines a saw blade with an energy beam to suck up souls of defeated enemies. New music tracks by Ojo Rojo complement the original score. A cooperative mode is introduced, allowing players to team up in local and online play, as well as a survival mode where up to eight players can fight together against waves of enemies.
Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is available on Xbox 360, released on June 28th, 2013. The game features first-person shooter gameplay and includes PvP multiplayer modes. It builds upon the original Painkiller and Battle Out of Hell with new visuals, soundtracks, and cooperative play options.
