In Roll Away , the player controls a beach ball as it navigates through a series of cubic-grid labyrinths suspended high above various locations. The goal is to collect all the keys scattered throughout each level to unlock the exit. The player can also collect coins and gems, which increase their score.
The gameplay involves manipulating gravity to navigate the ball through changing surfaces and obstacles. Gravity always pulls the ball downwards towards the surface it's resting on or jumping towards. As the ball reaches certain points where the surface tilts upward or downward, its direction of gravity changes, allowing it to move along these changes. The player must adjust their movements accordingly to maintain control.
Obstacles and challenges abound in each level, including spikes, Captivators that capture the ball on contact, ice blocks that propel the ball forward, and collapsing blocks that leave empty space behind. There's also a fixed time limit for each level, which can be reversed by collecting an hourglass. Using certain pills affects the timer and ball movement.
Each level contains a fruit that changes depending on the player's score. Collecting five fruits unlocks a bonus level where the player must touch every block to earn points. There are also secret exits on some levels with bonus levels that function as normal levels but don't count towards the player's score.
The game features single-player Arcade mode, where players aim for high scores and save progress every 5 levels, as well as Time Trial mode, where completion times are crucial. In multiplayer modes, Copycat and Time Trial modes challenge players to copy each other's movements or complete levels faster.
