STARTING THE GAME
PlayStation 2 Setup
Set up your PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system according to its Instruction Manual. Ensure the MAIN POWER switch (located at the back of the console) is turned ON.
Press the RESET button. When the power indicator lights up, press the OPEN button to open the disc tray.
Place the Def Jam® Fight For NY™ disc on the disc tray with the label side facing up. Press the OPEN button again to close the disc tray.
Attach game controllers and other peripherals as appropriate. Follow on-screen instructions and refer to this manual for information on using the software.
Multiplayer Setup
Up to four players can play Def Jam: Fight for NY by using the Multitap (for PlayStation®2) inserted into controller port 2. The multitap is not supported when inserted in controller port 1.
During Multi-player gameplay, Player 1's controller must be inserted in controller port 1. Players 2-4 must have their controllers inserted into the multitap connected to controller port 2.

MOMENTUM STAMINA METER
Fill this meter completely to unleash a Blazin' move. Be careful, as running away from another fighter quickly drops your momentum level. You can regain momentum by standing your ground.
FIGHTING STYLES
Each of the five fighting styles has specific advantages. You can pick one initially and add others at Stapleton Athletics.
Street Fighters
These fighters have powerful punches and kicks, making them dangerous. Their Haymaker is the most destructive attack.
Kickboxers
Kickboxers deliver powerful kicks. In close combat, they use deadly clinch maneuvers to grab opponents and unleash a flurry of elbow, fist, knee, and leg strikes.
Martial Arts
Agile fighters with insane quickness. They are masters of the environment, using walls, posts, fences, and speakers to deliver unpredictable knockout blows.
Wrestling
A combination of showmanship and technical grappling. These powerful fighters use incredible upper body strength for throws and body slams. While slow and susceptible to quick strikes, their grappling abilities are lethal in tight situations.
Submissions
These fighters wear down specific body parts to open opponents to painful submission attacks. They use power and an arsenal of joint attacks, locks, and holds.
GAME MODES
Create a fighter for Story mode or jump into action with up to four players in Battle modes.
Story Mode
Test your skills in the underground hip hop fight circuit. The story begins when you bust D-Mob out of police custody.
SKETCH ARTIST
Choose a fighter from the lineup or use the Five-0's sketch artist to create your own brawler. Your first fighting style is free; others must be earned.
TUTORIAL
Prove your skills by fighting House. Follow the on-screen instructions to demonstrate your abilities.
THE CRIB
MAP
Use the map to navigate to locations like Stingray's Barbershop, Stapleton Athletics, and Syndicate Urban Streetwear. You'll also use it to visit fight venues.
OPTIONS
Set game preferences here, including gameplay difficulty and vibration ON/OFF.
TROPHIES
Track your accomplishments in the trophies section. Unlock trophies by completing challenges or milestones throughout the story.
STAPLETON ATHLETICS
Increase your skills and learn new fighting styles and moves in the gym. Your trainer, Henry Rollins, will teach you. Development points are required to upgrade skills or purchase new styles, so use them wisely. All attributes except charisma can be upgraded here.
JACOB & Co.
Visit Jacob, the jeweler to the stars, to purchase jewelry and increase your charisma.
Stingray's BARBER SHOP
Change your look at the barbershop. Stingray can alter your hair color, style, and facial hair. You must visit the barbershop each time you want to change your hairstyle.
THE SYNDICATE URBAN STREETWEAR
Visit this shop often to keep up with the latest urban fashions and acquire new gear.
