The gameplay is similar to previous titles in the series, with power-ups gained by defeating certain amounts of enemies and shooting magical bells left behind. These power-ups change color depending on how many times you shoot them, granting different abilities such as multiple shots or options.

As you progress through the game, both ships can join up for a powerful screen-clearing attack if powered correctly. You also have the option to choose from any of the first four stages at the start of the game, with the fifth stage locked until all previous ones are cleared.
