Monster Rancher 3 , released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001, brings monster raising and creature contests into the 128-bit generation. The popular Tecmo series sets up shop on the PS2 with a new release that features improved graphics and some additional features. While many characters and places are recognizable from earlier releases, monsters in this game are represented in a cel-shaded cartoon style.
Monsters develop according to the training and treatment they receive in the game, and players are encouraged to explore the game world to find new training opportunities. The game allows players to generate monsters using data on music CDs and movie DVDs, creating creatures that are often related to the artistic content on the disk. This adds a unique element of randomness and discovery to the gameplay.
