ModNation Racers , a game that combines elements of kart racing from Mario Kart and the customization aspect of LittleBigPlanet , drops players into the world of MRC (ModNation Racing Championship) as up-and-coming driver T.A.G. Along with his mother as a sponsor, T.A.G. starts out as a washed-out racer for a crew chief, meeting various interesting characters throughout his career. The initial race gets the player accustomed to the controls and some aspects of the game, including weapons such as rockets, sonic weapons, lightning weapons, and boost power-ups.
Gameplay in ModNation Racers is all about racing, but it's not just about crossing the finish line. Players can pick up items scattered throughout the track to upgrade their weapons and gain an edge over opponents. The creation aspect of the game is also a key part, allowing players to modify their racers and karts using the creation station. Tokens can be earned by completing challenges and winning matches, and can be used to unlock new items at a vending machine.
Players can also unleash their creativity by building and sharing their own tracks using various tools. The ModSpot serves as a central hub for players to share their creations, view top mods and karts, and connect with other players. Players can upload and download custom content, set up races with friends, and even enter creation studios to create new content.
