Salt & Sanctuary is a 2D platformer and action-RPG, offering a unique blend of exploration and combat. The game takes inspiration from the Souls series, retaining many of its mechanics but adapting them for a 2D platformer.

The story follows a person who has washed up on a mysterious island after a shipwreck, searching for a missing princess. To rescue her, the player must explore the island, battling enemies and bosses to earn salt, which can be used to upgrade their character's stats and abilities in sanctuaries .

Salt & Sanctuary features a variety of gameplay mechanics, including platforming, combat, and exploration. Players must navigate the island, finding new paths and battling enemies to progress. The game also includes a skill tree system, allowing players to upgrade their character's abilities. Additionally, players can collect statues and make offerings to bring characters and items to sanctuaries.

One of the unique features of Salt & Sanctuary is its couch co-op mode, which allows two players to play together on the same console, the Playstation 4. This adds a new layer of gameplay and social interaction to the game.
