Super Mario Land, Product Name, is a side-scrolling platformer where Mario must save Princess Daisy from her kidnapper, Tatanga, a mysterious spaceman. The game follows largely the same formula as its predecessor, with Mario defeating enemies by jumping on them and collecting coins and power-ups by hitting floating blocks.

The game features two unique scrolling shoot-'em-up levels, one where Mario pilots a submarine and another where he flies an aeroplane. Each world leads up to a boss fight which is defeated by collapsing the floor.
