Super Columns is an updated version of Columns with more options of play, but with the same setup. The goal is to maneuver falling blocks into groups of three or more to eliminate them from the screen. Along with a Versus mode, there is also a Story mode as well.
The land of Phoenicia has been threatened by an evil sorcerer named Surhand, who has stolen a mystical amulet that brings peace and serenity to the land. The player must battle their way through his four guards in a series of best two-out-of-three games of Columns to face off against Surhand and bring peace back to the land.
The game features Flash Mode, which returns from the original version, as well as the new Endless Mode, where the main objective is to score as many points as possible before the timer runs out. Special columns, such as Glitter Columns that eliminate all blocks of the same color on the screen at once, and Stone Block Columns that can only be eliminated through magic power-ups, are also present in these modes.
Super Columns is available for the Sega Game Gear console and was released on June 5th, 1995. The game combines action and adventure elements with puzzle gameplay, making it an exciting experience for players of all ages.
