Cyberball , released in 1990, takes inspiration from American Football, but with a sci-fi twist. The game's story begins when bionic parts were introduced into the sport, leading to a rule change that saw human players replaced by robots two years later. A new and heavier ball was also introduced - a 350-pound bomb that can cause destruction if it gets too hot.
Gameplay in Cyberball is similar to American Football, with the main difference being the 'downs' system replaced by the bomb's temperature increasing towards critical. When the bomb reaches critical, it explodes and possession is switched. This can be prevented by crossing the 50-yard line, losing possession, or scoring a touchdown, which resets the bomb's temperature.
The control scheme in Cyberball involves a two-player co-operative gameplay where one player throws the ball to the catcher as soon as it is released. The Sega Genesis console brings this fast-paced action to life, making for an exciting and challenging experience.
