Starting Up: How to Use Your Sega Saturn System
This CD-ROM can only be used with the Saturn System. Do not attempt to play this CD-ROM on any other CD player, as doing so may damage headphones and speakers. Setup and Loading
•
Set up your Sega Saturn system by following the instructions in your Sega Saturn System Instruction Manual. Plug in Control Pad 1. •
Place the Sega Saturn CD-ROM, label side up, in the well of the CD tray and close the lid. •
Press the Power Button to load the game. The game starts after the Sega Saturn logo screen. If nothing appears, turn the system OFF and make sure it is set up correctly. Stopping and Restarting
•
If you wish to stop a game in progress or restart after the game ends, press the Reset Button on the Sega Saturn console to return to the Game's Title Screen. •
To return to the Control Panel from the game, press Buttons A, B, C, and Start simultaneously at any time.
Audio CD Control Panel
•
If you turn on the power without inserting a CD, the Audio CD Control Panel appears.
•
To play a game, place the Sega Saturn CD in the unit, press the D-Button to move the cursor to the top left button on the Control Panel, and press Start. The opening screens of the game will appear. Disc Care
Your Sega Saturn CD-ROM contains a security code that allows the disc to be read. Keep the disc clean and handle it carefully. If the system has trouble reading the disc, remove it and wipe it carefully, starting from the center of the disc and wiping straight out towards the edge. Option Mode

Instruments and Radar
•
FULL Instruments: The warning radar is activated. It highlights the quadrant the enemy is in, with distance indicated by color: Yellow (just inside visual range), Orange (closing in), or Red (dangerously close). Enemy point values are displayed on screen.
•
NORMAL Instruments: The radar only displays enemy locations; point values are not displayed.
•
INSTRUMENTS OFF: Nothing is displayed. You fly by instinct.
Berserk Attack and Energy Bars
The two bars on screen indicate the power remaining in your Berserk Attack Bar and Energy Bar. Keep a close watch on the lower bar, as the game ends when you run out of energy.
Scoring and Metamorphosis
•
Each area contains a certain number of enemies. For each enemy you down, your point score increases.
•
As your score increases, your Dragoon becomes larger and more powerful.
•
When you clear an Episode, you are given points in three areas: Clear, Route, and Technical.
•
Depending on your score, your Dragoon goes through one or more metamorphic changes, increasing in size and strength.
Using the Laser Cannon
On the way back to your village, you will find a laser cannon. To use it:
•
Aim the scope at a target using the D-pad (the target must be visible in the crosshair scope).
•
Press A, B, or C to fire.
Homing Laser
•
Hold A, B, or C while aiming at enemies using the D-pad.
•
Release the button when a set of white crosshairs appears on the target(s). The homing laser beam is triggered.
•
The strength of the laser depends on the strength of the dragon.
Berserk Attack
If you are in a bind, press X, Y, or Z to activate your Berserker Attack. This unleashes a torrent of homing laser beams at all enemies until your Berserker energy is depleted. Use this reserve for desperate situations, not for every bind.
Routes and Path Selection
•
Each episode has more than one possible path. The route chosen affects difficulty and point totals.
•
A flashing symbol at the bottom edge of the screen indicates which route you have chosen.
•
Remember the spot where the symbol flashes so you can try the other route the next time.
