Battle Blaze is a fighting game set in the land of Virg, where selecting the King at the Tournament of Champions is a custom. A demon from the Netherworld sends five phantoms to possess each contender, with the last survivor being able to kill the king. However, one of the contenders, Durill, manages to defeat one of the phantoms but dies from exhaustion, allowing his son Kerrel to take his place in the Tournament to avenge him and kill the demon.

Battle Blaze is played as a side-scrolling one-on-one fighting game, where a jump and an attack button control the six different characters. Each character uses a unique weapon and has a few special attacks. The gameplay features two modes: Hero- -mode, where only Kerrel can be controlled and follows the game's story, while Battle -mode allows all characters to be used and enables two-player fights.
