Active Life Explorer is a party game targeted at adults, featuring a range of fun activities and challenges. The game requires the use of both the Wiimote and the Active Life floor mat controller. It offers three main modes of play. Explorer mode lets players create their own character and embark on exciting adventures to discover hidden treasures. Each level presents a new challenge that demands physical activity to complete, such as navigating treacherous terrain or competing in obstacle courses.

The game's various modes cater to different player preferences. Explorer mode provides a structured experience with set objectives, while the Park mode offers an open-ended environment where players can engage in mini games at their leisure. The game also features multiplayer capabilities, supporting up to eight players using four controllers.
