Just Dance 4 , the fourth main game in the dancing series, is a simulation game where players are rated for their ability to mimic dance routines to popular songs. On the Wii U platform, movement is tracked through the GamePad, while on other platforms such as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, movement is tracked using different peripherals like the Kinect or PlayStation Eye camera.
Compared to its previous version, Just Dance 4 has made some significant changes. The difficulty levels have been removed, as well as the option to quickly complete a song. Various game modes such as Simon says, medley, speed shuffle, playlists, just create, and 8-player are no longer available. Additionally, custom dance routines cannot be created. However, new features like dance quests, which provide six missions for a single song, have been introduced. Players can earn mojo points, the in-game currency, by completing these quests.
Players can also create dancer cards as a profile for their favourite songs, best scores, and completed challenges on all platforms except Xbox 360. Variations on songs can be unlocked, similar to previous games. The Sweat Mode has been developed into a fitness-like program with a different focus for each routine, lasting up to 40 minutes. It also includes warm-up and cool-down moments. Other game modes include battle mode and dance mash-up mode.
Exclusive to the Wii U version is the Puppet Master Mode, where the GamePad is used to manipulate visuals, playlists, and moves on the fly for up to four other players. This feature allows players to write on the screen and record pictures and videos. For all platforms, additional songs are offered as downloadable content (DLC). The base game contains about 50 tracks, with variations based on the platform and region. Some included artists are Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Rihanna, Jessie J, Flo Rida, Carrie Underwood, Elvis Presley, Ricky Martin, Nelly Furtado, Rick Astley, Britney Spears, Pink, and Skrillex.
