The ancient samurai warlord has returned with a demonic army, transforming innocent animals into fearsome warriors. A ninja master sends his last choice, young Hiro and his friend Futo, on a mission to restore balance to nature. Players control the duo through different worlds, exploring environments with some freedom of movement. When lost, they can meditate to receive hints and see an arrow pointing towards their next objective.
As players progress, they will follow the steps of other warriors and free four additional ninjas to make them playable. Each ninja has unique abilities, which can be switched between at any time. Hiro is an all-rounder who can use Kuji spells, unlocked by finding hidden shrines. Futo wields a large hammer and is effective against larger enemies. Other playable characters include Suzume, Shun, Tora, and Kunoichi, each with their own special abilities.
Combat involves basic attacks, defence breakers to stun enemies, and the ability to block. Characters also have acrobatic moves like wall jumping and running along walls. A sneak mode allows them to hide in the environment, causing more damage when attacking or avoiding confrontations. Health is restored by gathering fruit, and collectible items can be mixed into potions, bombs, and power-ups. As characters level up, they gain better abilities, including focus attacks that deal more damage.
