Prey , a first-person shooter released in 2006 for the Xbox 360, follows Tommy as he defends his girlfriend in a bar fight on a Native American reservation. The entire bar and everyone inside is sucked into an alien ship called The Sphere, where Tommy must navigate its gigantic structure to rescue his girlfriend Jen and grandfather Enisi. He soon discovers that the ship's organic and cybernetic structures defy gravity, allowing him to walk on walls and ceilings with the proper grids activated.
The gameplay involves exploring The Sphere, fighting against alien creatures, and using a variety of organic-based weapons. Tommy can shift into Spirit Walk, an alternate dimension, to get past obstacles and solve puzzles. When he dies, he is transported to another realm where he must shoot lost souls with his spirit bow before being sent back. The game also features a flying pod for navigating large areas and engaging enemies or moving objects using the tractor beam.
The gameplay is reminiscent of classic shooters like Descent, requiring players to decipher codes, activate switches, and find entrances to progress through the game. Prey supports OpenAL and EAX HD surround sound, as well as multiplayer games for up to eight players in duel or team deathmatch.
The game was developed by Human Head Studios but produced and originally designed by 3D Realms. With its unique blend of exploration, puzzle-solving, and first-person combat, Prey offers a thrilling experience for fans of the genre.
