WWE Legends of WrestleMania is a nostalgic wrestling game that brings back the characters and themes of the 1980s-1990s. The game features recreated events, venues, entrances, costumes, and music from this era, giving players a taste of what it was like to be part of WWE's most iconic moments.
The gameplay is based on a grapple-based chain-combo system, where players use the directional pad and face buttons to execute moves. A health bar and chain grapple level are displayed on screen, increasing with successful attacks and allowing for more powerful moves to be performed. Players can also use taunts to temporarily boost their health, strength, or durability.
The game features a WrestleMania Tour mode that is divided into three sections: relive (recreate legendary matches), rewrite (play classic matches with different outcomes), and redefine (change conditions and types of classic matches). Completing challenges rewards players with alternative costumes, new venues, and movies. Exhibition match types include Single, Steel Cage, Ladder, Hell In A Cell, Iron Man, Submission, Tag Team, Triple Threat, Battle Royal, Handicap, and Royal Rumble.
Players can also create their own wrestler, adding move-sets, custom entrances, or legendary tag teams. The game includes a feature to import characters from WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 for use in certain game modes.
