The gameplay involves playing as different characters, each with their unique abilities: Marty can kick, sneak, and jump, while Alex can throw fruits, use his claws, and roar at enemies. Gloria can tumble, butt bounce, and charge when eating chili peppers. Melman can spin into, head-bash, and perform a helicopter move to glide long distances. The Penguin can slide, fish, and attack with a finishing move.

As you progress through the game, you'll collect items like Life Tikis to replenish your health and Monkey Money to buy special things at the Zoovenir Shop, such as mini-games and outfits for the Madagascar cast.
