Slap Shot Super Pro Hockey is a one or two-player hockey game where players can choose from four handicap/skill levels: Amateur, Rookie, Pro, and Super Pro . The skill level affects the gameplay speed, with lower levels resulting in slower gameplay and higher levels resulting in faster gameplay. There are no teams, only Home and Visitor, each with three players and a goalie.
The home team is represented by a tan-colored player, while the visitor team is green. Players can only control one character at a time, which is colored lighter than the rest of their team. Goalies are controlled by the computer. The game features various moves such as slap shots, penalty boxes, face-offs, interceptions, and tripping. Tripping is considered a "legal" move if applied to an opponent with the puck. Penalties occur when a player trips an opponent without the puck, resulting in one player being sent to the penalty box.
The game has various statistics displayed on the screen, including score, penalty time, remaining time, and the current period. Periods are shown as bars on the screen rather than numbers. The game was released for the Intellivision console in 1987 and has been criticized for being similar to the original NHL Hockey game with an added single-player mode.
