As Flynn in TRON: Solar Sailer , you must navigate through the computer world to find and overload the MCP. Your goal is to escape this digital realm and return to reality. The game has two stages, with each one presenting a new challenge.
In the first stage, you are given an access code to write down, and then must guide your solar sailer down tracks in the computer world, aiming to reach Track 0 where the MCP is located. As you move through the tracks, tanks will try to shoot you, while recognizers attempt to push you away from Track 0. I/O beams can teleport you closer to the MCP if you correctly enter the access code.
The sailer's energy levels are crucial, as depleting them before switching tracks will cause the sailer to stop moving and end the game. Energy levels can be monitored by the number of "energy bugs" on the grid surrounding each track, with more bugs indicating lower track energy. An audible warning will also sound when your energy is running low.
If you successfully reach Track 0, stage two begins. You are placed inside the MCP as it tries to make continuous data transmissions to prevent you from entering the override code, which would overload the system and allow you to escape. In this stage, zeros and ones fly towards you in a first-person view.
An in-game voice will give you the override code in binary, and you must use a cursor to catch the correct bits. You can then specify where in the sequence to insert these captured bits using the number pad. Red bits that collide with the cursor will automatically fill in a randomly selected part of the sequence.
The game is timed, so you must enter the code as quickly as possible. If you succeed, the MCP overloads, and the game ends. However, you can choose to go into "Overtime Mode" for extra points, where you must either block all incoming transmissions or lose the game.
